The inhabitants belong to the Zande tribe, farmers that plant mainly cassava, groundnuts, rice, bananas, maize, coffee, pineapples, mangos, etc.

The MCSPA maintained a presence in the mission of Ave Maria since 2010. This presence was interrupted for 8 months in 2018, while the mission was closed. Currently there reside in Ave Maria two priests, members of the MCSPA, four apprentices, the aspirants and two collaborators. Apart from the group, there are seven volunteers from Kenya and Cameron, who work on the different projects.

The main projects are education (mother-and-child centers, primary schools, secondary school and vocational training center), health, as well as attention to people with special needs such as elderly and refugees from the Central African Republic.
