In 2005, the Archbishop of Addis Ababa, today Cardinal Berhaneyesus Souraphiel, invited the Missionary Community of Saint Paul the Apostle to work in his Archdiocese. He knew the Community since 1993, when he was Vicar General of the Apostolic Vicariate of Nekemte. The request to the MCSPA was to establish a community in some place of the Archdiocese, offering a Christian witness and approaching the people by working in the areas of greater need.

When in 2007 the MCSPA decided to respond to this request, we were shown several places where the local population had asked for a presence of the Catholic Church. After visiting several villages, Muketuri, 78 km from Addis Ababa, was one of the places where the local community showed a greater interest and offered the possibility of donating land to the Church in order to produce food to tackle to the poor nutritional state of its population.

The members of the MCSPA, after their experience in other parts of the country, offered their help in the improvement of the nutrition and child education.
