St. John de Evangelist Mission – Lobur, covers the territory of the so-called Ilemi Triangle, around 14,000 Square Kilometres. It is immersed in the Parish of Ss. Joachim and Ann, with the base in Kibish. Its population, around 35,000 people, are nomads and semi-nomads who live from their animals in this quite well off pasture land.  The vastness of the territory continues to be the biggest handicap in terms of delivery of services, besides the harsh climatic conditions.

The efforts to bring in a culture of peace and to look for ways of peaceful traditional conflict resolution mechanisms are also bearing fruits since the initial animosity among the tribes in this triple corridor of the Ilemi area (Dassenech-Turkana, Nyangatom-Turkana and Toposa-Turkana) is decreasing. However, we are still far from healing and full peaceful coexistence.
